Alice Windsor- Director and Owner
Mother of four and founder, was introduced to the idea of an outdoor pre-school on a visit to friends in northern Germany. She soon set to work on creating a similar place for young children to thrive at her new home on the border of Shropshire and Herefordshire.
During her research into outdoor nurseries on these shores, Alice had the exceptionally good fortune to meet Helena Nillson. Helena set up Wildflowers Kindergarten in Hampshire for her daughter 20 years ago – the first of its kind in the UK. Helena has been indispensable in the conception and creation of Little Grubs, providing the framework for the children’s daily learning through play and discovery. With her endless enthusiasm, Helena has nurtured countless independent little people. Now we hope to do the same.
Jacqui Rowe - Setting Visionary and Registered Manager
With 25 years in education, the majority spent in early years, Jacqui brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to Little Grubs. Her deep understanding of early childhood development is shaped by years of research-informed practice, drawing on philosophies from Froebel and Steiner to Reggio Emilia and Montessori.
It was her forest school training that proved transformative — opening her eyes to the profound impact of the outdoor environment on children's autonomy, wellbeing, and capacity for wonder. That experience became the foundation for her approach at Little Grubs, where nature is not just a backdrop but the very heart of how children learn and grow.
Jacqui was instrumental in shaping the vision and ethos of Little Grubs from the ground up, weaving together the best of early years thinking to create the distinctive, nurturing setting you see today. Her commitment is simple: to give every child the time, space, and freedom to discover who they are and what they can do.
