A Day at Little Grubs
At Little Grubs Kindergarten, each day is a journey of discovery. Our full-day programme follows a gentle, natural rhythm, with familiar activities and comforting routines that help children feel secure, engaged, and excited to learn. Here’s what a typical day looks like…
Morning: Welcoming the Day
From 8:30 – 8:45 AM, we greet children at the playground, setting the tone for a day of adventure.
At 8:45 AM, we gather for our welcome circle, a special moment where we connect as a group, share our thoughts, and build a sense of belonging. Together, we mark the days of the week, enjoy a daily rhyme, and introduce the themes we’ll explore.
Then it’s off across the meadow, making our way to the day’s chosen play space. Along the way, we pause to observe the changing landscape, noticing the shifting seasons and the world around us. Once we arrive, children immerse themselves in free play, exploring their surroundings and using their imaginations. This time is sacred—educators observe and support but never interrupt the magic of child-led play.
Mid-Morning: Nourishment & Skills
Around mid-morning, we gather for a snack—a simple, wholesome bowl of fresh fruit with homemade bread and butter. We take a moment of stillness to tune into nature, and often tell a story together. Some days, we enjoy a campfire, cooking a warm treat as we chat and share ideas.
After snack time, children return to their play, with the option to explore focused skills. Whether it’s hammering, learning a traditional game, or playing with patterns in counting and rhyme, this time is rich with hands-on learning.
Midday: Rest & Reflection
By 12:15 PM, we make our way back to the playroom, taking a moment to reflect on the morning’s adventures. A few gentle yoga-style stretches and deep breaths help us transition into mindful storytime, where we settle in for a tale that sparks imagination and calm.
Lunch preparation is part of the experience! Children help set the table before sitting down together for a freshly prepared meal at 1:15 PM. Our food is cooked by the award-winning Ludlow Farmshop, using ingredients from the farm whenever possible.
Afternoon: Creativity & Connection
After lunch, children explore the open-ended resources in our playroom, experimenting with materials, expressing their creativity, and refining skills through hands-on experiences. We also spend time cooking, crafting, and making the most of our outdoor spaces near the playroom.
At 4:00 PM, our day comes to a close, as children reunite with their parents on the playground—tired, happy, and full of stories to tell.
Every day at Little Grubs is an adventure, carefully woven with play, learning, nature, and community—the perfect foundation for a lifelong love of learning!
